Milan, Aug. 7 (LaPresse) – Barcelona has temporarily stripped goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen of the captaincy due to his refusal to sign a medical report regarding his back injury. The club said Thursday that center back Ronald Araujo will serve as captain of the first team until further notice. Barcelona launched disciplinary proceedings against Ter Stegen on Tuesday after disagreements over the recovery time from his recent back surgery. The club needed his signature to try to free up space in the salary cap and sign other players more easily. Ter Stegen had said his recovery would take about three months, but Barcelona has not provided a timeline for his return.
