ATP Cincinnati, Darderi withdraws against Comesana

Turin, 10 August (LaPresse) – Luciano Darderi's adventure at the Cincinnati Open, a Masters 1000 tournament with a prize pool of $9,193,540, has come to an end with his withdrawal. The world number 34, trailing 6-3, 3-1 against Francisco Comesana, ranked 71st, decided to stop after several minutes in which a problem between his left gluteus and lower back was clearly affecting him. Trailing 5-4, the Italian asked for treatment from the physiotherapist, but this did not seem to change how he felt. When play resumed, partly due to ongoing problems with his second serve (seven double faults in the first set), he decided to retire after also going down 3-1 in the second set.
