Rome, Aug. 14 (LaPresse) – In a completely sold-out PalaDozza in Bologna, Gianmarco Pozzecco’s Italy defeated Argentina in a friendly match, their first clash against the South Americans 21 years after the 2004 Olympic final. In their fourth warm-up game ahead of the European Championship, the Azzurri won 84-72 (25-19; 15-14; 27-18; 17-21). Fontecchio scored 19 points, Spagnolo 18. Debut for Darius Thompson. In the previous three warm-ups, Italy had claimed three victories against Iceland, Senegal, and Latvia. The Azzurri will now take two days off before regrouping in Rome at the Olympic Preparation Center in Acqua Acetosa, then flying to Athens on August 20. Danilo Gallinari will join the team on Monday, August 18. The last two friendlies before the European Championship will be against Latvia on August 21 at 7:15 p.m. Italian time and against Greece on August 22 (7:15 p.m. Italian time).
