Rome, Aug. 24 (LaPresse) – Lucia Bronzetti (No. 57 WTA) exited in the first round at her fourth US Open, where she achieved her best Slam result in New York in 2023. The Italian lost in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 4-6) to qualifier Tereza Valentova from the Czech Republic (No. 96, no previous H2H), who is playing her second Slam in the main draw: in her only previous Grand Slam appearance, at Roland Garros 2025, she reached the second round. Valentova will face Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina (No. 10 WTA), the ninth seed, who has never gone past the third round at the US Open, or local wild card Julieta Pareja (No. 335 WTA). The 16-year-old American, world No. 1 junior, reached the Wimbledon Under-18 finals in singles and doubles and achieved a best ranking of No. 317 thanks to her semifinal run at the WTA 250 in Bogota, Colombia.
