Milan, August 25 (LaPresse) – Race walker Massimo Stano, Olympic champion in the 20 km in Tokyo and world champion in the 35 km in Eugene, will not be part of the Italian team for the upcoming World Championships, to be held in the Japanese capital from September 13 to 21. The announcement was made by FIDAL, the Italian Athletics Federation, specifying that the decision came today due to a hamstring injury in his left leg, which emerged in recent weeks and has not fully healed.
“I’m very disappointed and very sad. We thought about it a lot—my coach Patrizio Parcesepe, the Federation, and Fiamme Oro—and we believe this is the right decision given the current situation. Since early July, I haven’t been able to train as I would have liked, and unfortunately, the latest sessions haven’t given me the confidence I needed, even though we tried everything to reach a competitive level of fitness. Competing in a World Championship in poor condition wouldn’t motivate me, and I’d risk a more serious injury. The main goal remains Los Angeles 2028,” Stano emphasized.
