Rome, August 27 (LaPresse) – The Italian national basketball coach Gian Marco Pozzecco has officially announced the 12 players called up for EuroBasket. The roster features veterans like Danilo Gallinari and captain Nicolò Melli alongside newcomers such as Darius Thompson and Saliou Niang. The complete list is: Darius Thompson, Marco Spissu, Danilo Gallinari, Nicolò Melli, Simone Fontecchio, Giampaolo Ricci, Matteo Spagnolo, Gabriele Procida, Saliou Niang, Momo Diouf, Nicola Akele, Alessandro Pajola. Italy will debut tomorrow evening in Limassol (Cyprus) against Greece. Riccardo Rossato, the last cut by the coach, returns to Italy. During the press conference, Pozzecco thanked Polonara, Tonut, and Rossato, explaining the waiting time on selections due to injuries to Ricci and Akele and the integration timing of Thompson and Gallinari.
