Zurich (Switzerland), 5 September (LaPresse/AP) – George Weah will lead a FIFA panel of former footballers called upon to provide advice on the fight against racism. This was announced by the world football federation. “Players” Voice' (the name of the panel) will be composed of 16 members, including (in addition to Weah) Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor and Briana Scurry, goalkeeper for the 1999 World Cup-winning US women's national team. “The panel monitors and advises on anti-racism initiatives,” FIFA said in a statement, “promotes education at all levels of football and acts as a think tank for new ideas”. The contribution of top-level players was promised in May last year, when FIFA relaunched a coordinated global initiative against racism and discrimination in football. FIFA explained that its new panel ‘will offer support and practical advice on how to unite in taking a stand against what, in many countries, are criminal acts.’
