Turin, Sep 9 (LaPresse) – Italian, European, World and Olympic champion, winner of three VNLs and 3-time MVP of the CEV Champions League, an icon of volleyball and above all a leader: Paola Egonu is the new captain of Numia Vero Volley Milano. The official announcement of her captaincy comes together with the news of the two-year contract renewal that will bind the newly crowned World Champion to President Alessandra Marzari’s club until 2027. "For Egonu, 26 years old, this season will be a true challenge, both personally and athletically," reads a note from Vero Volley. "For the opposite from Cittadella it is her first experience as captain and her third year with Numia Vero Volley Milano, aiming to achieve great satisfaction and historic goals, all while leading an ambitious team. Arriving in Lombardy in the summer of 2023, with 10 years of success in Italy and Europe behind her, she has carried Vero Volley to new heights: one Scudetto final, two Italian Supercup finals, two Italian Cup finals and two podiums in the CEV Champions League. In the same period, she won with the Italian national team two Volleyball Nations League, Olympic gold in Paris 2024 and the World title in 2025. Between Serie A1, the Italian Cup and the CEV Champions League, she scored over 1700 points in two seasons in the rosablu shirt, but her impact goes far beyond the numbers. Paola Egonu represents not only the beating heart of Numia Vero Volley Milano and Italian volleyball, but also a symbol of excellence, determination, and passion that transcends the playing field, inspiring millions. With her essential leadership, the team is ready to write new chapters of history together."
