Athletics: World Championships, Italy's appeal rejected, men's 4×100 out of the final

Rome, Sept 20 (LaPresse) – Italy's men's 4×100 relay team is officially out of the final at the Tokyo World Championships. The appeal submitted by Fidal was rejected. The race was affected by contact with South Africa. In lane five, during the baton exchange, Marcell Jacobs collided with South Africa’s first runner Shaun Maswanganyi in lane six, almost falling but managing to stay on his feet, though the result was compromised. The collision was not deemed a foul sufficient to advance the Italian team to the final on Sunday. Fausto Desalu, Marcell Jacobs, Lorenzo Patta, and Matteo Melluzzo finished the heat in 38.52, ranking eleventh overall.
