Milan, 26 September (LaPresse) – Paolini made a winning debut in the second round of the China Open, the penultimate WTA 1000 tournament of the season, with a prize pool of $8,963,700, which is being played on the hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Centre in Beijing (combined with an ATP 500 tournament). The 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, ranked No. 8 and seeded No. 6 (with a bye in the first round like all 32 seeded players), fresh from her second triumph in the Billie Jean King Cup with the Italian national team in Shenzhen, easily defeated Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, ranked No. 221 in the WTA (competing with a protected ranking) and finalist in this tournament in 2018, with a score of 6-1, 6-3.
