Rome, 6 October (LaPresse) – The government will not address the issue of the World Cup qualifying match between Italy and Israel, which will be played in Udine on 14 October, in light of the latest pro-Palestinian protests because “the decision to proceed as planned depends on sporting bodies such as UEFA and FIFA, which the FIGC must necessarily follow”. This was stated to LaPresse by the Minister of Sport, Andrea Abodi, on the sidelines of the presentation in Rome of Terre des hommes' 2025 dossier “The condition of girls and young women in the world”. “The model of public order,” he continued, “is the same as always, with attention, in this period, increasing due to the violence that is manifesting itself in an unbearable and unsustainable way, as well as being inconsistent with the demand for peace. One cannot think of peace while promoting it with violence”. According to Abodi, the type of approach ‘will also depend on the model of public disorder that extremist left-wing and antagonistic factions are pursuing, thinking that it may be a way to promote reconciliation. We thank the police for what they are doing, even on the most tense days. The government is investing in international diplomacy so that it can contribute to the final result: peace that is achieved precisely thanks to diplomatic skills.’
