Tennis: Roger Federer inducted into the International Hall of Fame

Rome, 19 Nov. (LaPresse) – Roger Federer has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame for 2026 in the first year he was eligible for the honour. The announcement was made by the Rhode Island-based organisation. The Swiss player – the first to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles – was the only one to receive enough votes in the players category, while former tennis player (now TV presenter and journalist) Mary Carillo was selected in the contributors category. The induction ceremony for both will be held in August. Federer was the protagonist of what he himself called ‘a golden age for tennis’, when he competed for the top spots in the ATP rankings and the most important tournaments with his long-time rivals, Novak Djokovic and (above all) Rafael Nadal. ‘I have always appreciated the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me,’ Federer commented. ‘To be recognised in this way by the sport and my peers is deeply moving,’ he added. During his career, he has won Wimbledon eight times, the Australian Open six times, the US Open five times and Roland Garros once.
