Superga tragedy, Juventus on aeroplane gesture at derby: ‘We condemn all forms of insult’

Rome, 24 Nov. (LaPresse) – "On 8 November, during the Juventus-Torino match played at the Allianz Stadium, four people located in the East and North stands repeatedly mimicked the gesture of an aeroplane towards the away fans, in clear reference to the Superga tragedy. In addition to what emerged on social media, the Club has identified three other individuals who participated in this outrageous gesture." In a statement on its official website, Juventus revisits the events of the derby against Torino that led to four Bianconeri fans receiving a one-year stadium ban for making the gesture of an aeroplane crashing to the ground, mimicking the Superga disaster. "Juventus took immediate action, collaborating with the police to locate and identify those responsible. The Club strongly condemns any manifestation of contempt and discrimination, reaffirming once again that there is no place for such gestures on or off the pitch, within any of the Bianconeri ecosystems. For this reason, once the perpetrators had been identified by the police, Juventus decided to apply the “Gradimento” (ban) against them in accordance with the “Code of Conduct”, which prohibits access to football events organised by the club," the statement read. ‘Once again, the Allianz Stadium's state-of-the-art video surveillance system – which includes Panomera multifocal security cameras, an effective deterrent against behaviour contrary to the Club's values – and the timely cooperation with the police, thanks to which it was possible to locate and identify those responsible, proved to be fundamental,’ the Bianconeri club concluded.
