Milan, Jan. 5 (LaPresse) – Ruben Amorim is no longer the manager of Manchester United. In a statement published on its website, the English club announced the dismissal of the 40-year-old Portuguese coach following another draw against Leeds United. The Red Devils are 17 points behind league leaders Arsenal and come off a difficult December, with just one win in their last five matches. According to British media, Darren Fletcher, the current youth team coach and former Manchester United midfielder, is expected to take over as interim manager."Ruben Amorim has left his position as manager of Manchester United. Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May. With Manchester United in sixth place in the Premier League," the statement reads, "the club’s management has, with reluctance, decided that it is the right time for a change. This will give the team the best opportunity to finish at the top of the Premier League." The club "wishes to thank Ruben for his contribution and wishes him all the best for the future. Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team on Wednesday against Burnley."
