Milan, Jan. 5 (LaPresse) – Italy starts 2026 with a new record. Luciano Darderi improved his best ranking and rose to number 24, behind Jannik Sinner (2), Lorenzo Musetti (who climbs to number 7), and Flavio Cobolli (22). There are thus four Italians among the top 24 in the ATP singles ranking: since the computerized ranking was introduced, this had never happened. In the first ranking of the new year, in which players can no longer count the points earned in 2025 at the United Cup, Brisbane, and Hong Kong (the circuit had started a week earlier), there are five Italians in the Top 40 and eight in the Top 100. Positions were gained by Lorenzo Sonego (39, +1), Matteo Berrettini (55, +1), and Mattia Bellucci (73, +3); Matteo Arnaldi remains at number 61, having withdrawn from the Brisbane tournament after being a lucky loser. Looking overall at this week’s ATP ranking, in the Top 10 Taylor Fritz lost three positions and dropped to number 9, overtaken by Australian Alex De Minaur, Musetti, and American Ben Shelton.
This week’s ATP ranking:
