Milan, 7 January (LaPresse) – Lorenzo Musetti begins his 2026 singles campaign with a win at the Bank of China Tennis Open, an ATP 250 tournament with a prize pool of $700,045, played on hard courts in Hong Kong. Ranked No. 7, he entered the draw directly in the second round and defeated Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry, No. 57 in the ATP rankings, who has yet to beat a Top 10 player, 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-4. Seeded number 1 for the seventh time in an ATP tournament, the Italian achieved his third victory in as many head-to-head matches and reached his 42nd ATP quarter-final, his 19th on hard court. He will face 21-year-old local talent Coleman Wong (ATP 150) or Canadian Gabriel Diallo (ATP 40). ‘Tomas started well, he served very well, I struggled to find my rhythm. As the match went on, I played with more intensity, I'm happy with the win,’ Musetti said in a post-match interview. "I feel good in Hong Kong, I feel at home. The crowd has welcomed me very warmly, and the facilities have also improved. I'm always happy to start the year here, I hope it's a long week," added the Italian, as reported by SuperTennis.
