Turin, 9 January. (LaPresse) – Gianluca Galassi, centre player for the national volleyball team and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, ‘underwent surgery to remove a tumour from his testicle’. The Emilia-based club announced this in a statement, adding that "the operation, which was a complete success, was performed at the IEO in Milan by Dr Gennaro Musi. The medical staff of the Biancorossi club will closely monitor Gianluca Galassi's post-operative progress, checking on him daily and assessing his recovery time.‘ ’Hello everyone, there is something you need to know, and I want you to hear it directly from me. First of all, I want to thank all my teammates, the staff and the club for their discretion over the past month. I have been diagnosed with testicular cancer and have undergone surgery. Now I will have to undergo tests and check-ups to understand how long my recovery will take. Obviously, I hope it will be as short as possible so that I can quickly return to doing what I love: playing volleyball,‘ said Galassi. ’Fortunately, everything was caught in time, thanks to prevention and check-ups. That's why I want to advise you guys in particular: prevention is essential. If even one of you decides to get an extra check-up after reading this message, it will be worth more to me than a victory on the court. I will spend this period of convalescence at home with Laura, Rey and Leonardo, who are a source of endless love. I promise you that I will be back on the court as soon as possible."
