Rome, Jan. 17 (LaPresse) – “It was really great. Today has an enormous meaning. The last few years haven’t been easy, many ups and downs, and I really want to thank those who have always been there. Those who believed in me, in us, also my sister, my family, my parents who have always given so much and supported me in everything.” These were the immediate words of Italian skier Nicol Delago after her first downhill victory in Tarvisio. “I’ve always enjoyed skiing,” she explained to Rai microphones, “going fast, now I’ve found freedom again, and sometimes you think too much, ‘I have to do this,’ and it always seemed too little, less is more, and today it helped me a lot.” Her sister Nadia finished tenth: “In my opinion, she had a beautiful run, even though the conditions were perhaps not as good as with the first bibs, but I really watched how she skied and saw her determined again, and that is definitely a good sign.” A victory that bodes well for the Milan-Cortina Olympics: “Well, when you have good energy and are calm, what comes next is just a consequence.”
