Milan-Cortina, Franzoni: ‘I never imagined victory in Kitzbühel and a medal in the downhill’

Cortina d'Ampezzo (Belluno), 7 February (LaPresse) – ‘At the start of the season, I never imagined I could win in Kitzbühel and bring home a medal in the downhill… these are things I never imagined.’ These were the words of Giovanni Franzoni to Rai Sport after winning the Olympic silver medal in the men's downhill at the Milan-Cortina Games. "It was a strange race, I didn't feel much tension in the days leading up to it, I experienced it a bit like that. Then, as the start approached, I got really nervous. My legs already felt stiff before I started, a strange feeling,‘ he said. ’Then I watched Monney and Odermatt, who skied really well, then Franjo (Von Allmen, ed.) came down and had a devastating run, and I said to myself, “Wow, it's going to take a lot to beat these guys”. I started off very determined, the track was fantastic to ski on, but unfortunately at Carcentina, where I made a mistake in the trial, I didn't do it perfectly and lost two tenths of a second. I have to thank those who have always been there for me, my team, the squad. The bronze in Paris? If we can do it together today, I think it's the right podium to aim for. It's crazy how much it changes your mindset."
