Milan-Cortina: short track, Fontana fourth in the 1000m, gold for the Netherlands

Milan, 16 February (LaPresse) – Arianna Fontana did not go beyond fourth place in the women's 1000 metres short track at the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina, with a time of 1'28"745. The gold medal went once again to Dutch skater Xandra Velzeboer, who repeated her success in the 500m, with a time of 1'28‘523. Silver went to Canadian Courtney Sarault in 1'28’523 and bronze to South Korean Gilli Kim in 1'28"614. Fontana was unlucky in the final stages of the race when, while fighting for a medal, she collided with the South Korean, losing ground on the leaders. In the B final, another Italian, Elisa Confortola, won with a time of 1'31"099. The Italian therefore finished in sixth place overall.
