Bormio (Sondrio), Feb. 16 (LaPresse) – Switzerland’s Loic Meillard won the gold medal in the slalom at the Milano Cortina Games. On the Stelvio course the Swiss skier finished 35 hundredths ahead of Austria’s Fabio Gstrein, with Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen third at 1"35. The other Norwegian, Atle Lie McGrath, who was leading after the first run, straddled after a few gates, burning his medal hopes. Tommaso Saccardi finished twelfth, the best of the Italians and the only one among the four Italian slalom skiers to have competed in the second run. For Meillard it is his third medal at the Milano Cortina Games after silver in the combined and bronze in the giant slalom.
