Rome, 4 Mar. (LaPresse) – Serious incident at Indian Wells reported by Italian tennis player Lucrezia Stefanini. The Tuscan athlete, in a video on Instagram, spoke about death threats received via WhatsApp from unknown individuals before her first-round qualifying match, lost against Andorran Jimenez Kasintseva: “I received death threats if I didn’t lose the match. They mentioned my parents and the place where I was born. They sent me a photo of a gun. I reported everything to the WTA, which provided security measures for me and was very attentive. Despite this, I fought until the end to win the match because I cannot allow these people to intimidate me and influence me. This job is fun and a passion; I cannot think that this sport has become like this. I didn’t give weight to these messages, but I reported them and will continue to do so if you keep sending them.”
