Rome, 13 March (LaPresse) – Giovanni Franzoni continues his magical season, finishing second in the Courchevel downhill, just 0.09 seconds behind Vincent Kriechmayr, who brings Austria back to the top of the downhill podium after a three-year drought in the World Cup. It was Kriechmayr himself who stood on the top step of the podium in Soldeu in 2023, and the 34-year-old from Linz has now secured his 20th career victory. For Franzoni, an Olympic silver medallist in Bormio, this is his fifth podium finish this season and he moves up to third place in the downhill standings. In Courchevel, Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt finished third, 31 hundredths of a second off the top, a result that mathematically secures his fifth overall World Cup title with six races to spare, as well as the discipline title, given that his compatriot Franjo Von Allmen, his only direct rival, did not finish the race on the French course.
