Turin, 13 March (LaPresse) – It will be a historic Monday for Italian men's tennis. Looking at the real-time projections of the rankings, Arthur Fils' defeat at Indian Wells ensures Luciano Darderi's entry into the top 20 players in the world. So, for the first time, Italy will have four players simultaneously in the Top 20 of the ATP rankings: Darderi is in fact Italy's number 4 behind Jannik Sinner (2), Lorenzo Musetti (5) and Flavio Cobolli (14). Luciano Darderi is the fourteenth Italian player to enter the top 20 in the ATP rankings since they were introduced in 1973. Jannik Sinner stands out on this list as the first Italian to occupy the number 1 position in the world, a record that remains unbroken when looking at the entire history of the game. The Italian reached the top of the rankings for the first time on 10 June 2024 and remained number 1 for a total of 66 weeks, 65 of which were consecutive. Only two other Italians have reached the Top 5 in the ATP rankings since 1973: Adriano Panatta, who reached his best ranking of number 4 on 24 August 1976, and Lorenzo Musetti, who was number 5 in the world for the first time on 12 January 2026. Matteo Berrettini (best ranking number 6), Corrado Barazzutti (best ranking number 7) and Fabio Fognini (best ranking number 9) have also reached the Top 10.
