Turin, 24 May (LaPresse) – ‘A month ago, I didn’t ask the president for anything. I told him, out of friendship, that my time here was coming to an end. I wasn’t interested in hearing anything about the plans or the restructuring; I’d already made up my mind. Why I made it: I failed in one respect at Napoli. I wasn’t able to unite you, to bring unity. And if you don’t bring unity to the Napoli environment, it becomes difficult to compete against other teams.” So said Napoli manager Antonio Conte, announcing his departure from the Campania club at a press conference alongside president Aurelio De Laurentiis, following the match against Udinese. ‘I’ve seen a lot of venom and a lot of discord directed at me and my players,’ he added. ‘Those who spread venom are failures, and Napoli doesn’t need failures. Napoli needs serious people who want to love the team. I’ve failed in that respect.’
