Giro d'Italia: Valgren wins stage 17, Vingegaard retains the pink jersey

Turin, 27 May (LaPresse) – Michael Valgren has won the 17th stage of the Giro d'Italia, the 202-km mountain stage from Cassano d'Adda to Andalo, which featured a massive breakaway of over thirty riders. The EF-Education-EasyPost rider triumphed solo, surprising his breakaway companions with a blistering sprint one kilometre from the finish. Behind him, three seconds back, came Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility), with third place going to Damiano Caruso (Bahrain-Victorious), who made a strong comeback in the general classification to return to the top ten. Gianmarco Garofoli (Soudal-QuickStep) also put in a good performance, finishing seventh. Jonas Vingegaard retains the pink jersey. The group of GC contenders finished 5'14‘ behind the winner, Michael Valgren. There were no changes in the top three of the general classification: the Visma-Lease a Bike captain maintains a lead of 4'03’ over Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) and 4'27" over Thymen Arensman (Netcompany Ineos).
