Rome, Apr. 8 (LaPresse) – “The day after the Italian national team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the VII Commission on Culture, Science and Education of the Chamber of Deputies requested, and promptly obtained, my availability for a hearing on the state of Italian football. The meeting was welcomed and agreed upon, at least during the few hours it remained on the schedule, by both majority and minority parliamentary forces. Unfortunately, it was canceled the following day, just moments after I submitted my resignation as FIGC president, as if the problems of the football movement were consequently resolved. For those who might argue that with my resignation I am no longer in office, to avoid misunderstandings, it is worth noting that the federal statute provides that I remain in prorogation for ordinary administration until June 22, the date on which the Extraordinary Elective Assembly has already been convened.” This was announced by the resigning president of the Italian Football Federation, Gabriele Gravina, in a note attached to the report he would have presented at the Culture Commission hearing of the Chamber, canceled the day after Italy’s elimination from the World Cup.
