Directed by Marco Spagnoli and produced by Marco Maria Durante, nominated for a David di Donatello and winner of a Silver Ribbon award
The legend of Sophia Loren was celebrated on Monday evening in Washington with the screening of Sophia!, the documentary directed by Marco Spagnoli and produced by Marco Maria Durante, president of LaPresse, nominated for a David di Donatello and winner of a Silver Ribbon award. The evening, organized by Maby Palmisano, president of the Comites of Washington DC, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and Federica Brogna of United States of Italy, gathered a crowd of spectators in the auditorium of the Italian Embassy. Attendees were able to relive — or, in the case of the younger audience, appreciate for the first time — the life, rise to stardom, and on-screen triumphs of the most iconic of Italian actresses.
The guest of honor was producer Durante, who shared with the audience some insights into the making of the film. “Sophia didn’t want to cut anything; she didn’t ask to change a thing,” said Durante, recalling the screening where Loren watched the documentary about her life for the first time. “Ours is a friendship from which a unique documentary was born,” added the president of LaPresse. Sophia! was broadcast in Italy last September on Rai 3 in celebration of the actress’s 90th birthday.
