Rome, Jan. 2 (LaPresse) – Calin Georgescu has filed an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg against the decision of the Constitutional Court to annul the presidential elections in Romania. His lawyer, Maria Vasii, announced this to the Bucharest news portal HotNews. "This is a natural and absolutely necessary step to defend the fundamental rights of Mr. Calin Georgescu, an independent candidate, as well as those of all Romanian citizens who deserve a fair and transparent electoral process," she stated. In his request, Georgescu has asked the ECHR, among other things, to compel the Romanian state to resume the electoral process, respecting the results of the first round, specifically the runoff between him and the second-place finisher in the first round, Elena Lasconi.
