Kiev (Ukraine), Jan 16 (LaPresse/AP) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in Ukraine's capital with a pledge to help ‘ensure the security of the country for a century’. The surprise visit comes just days before Donald Trump is sworn in as US president. The British government says Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will sign a ‘100-year partnership’ treaty in Kiev, covering areas such as defence, science, energy and trade. This is Starmer's first visit as premier, he had previously visited the country in 2023 when he was leader of the opposition, he then had two talks with Zelensky at 10 Downing Street. Starmer was welcomed at the Kiev train station by the ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Harris.
