Toronto (Canada), Jan. 17 (LaPresse) – Chrystia Freeland, whose abrupt resignation as finance minister last month forced Justin Trudeau to step down as prime minister, has announced that she will run as the next leader of the Liberal Party and Canada's first female prime minister. In a post on X, Freeland said she would officially launch her campaign on Sunday. Also on the web, she went on to call for economic retaliation if US President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his threat to impose tariffs on all Canadian products. ‘If President Trump imposes 25 per cent tariffs, our counter-move must be dollar for dollar and must be precisely and painfully targeted,’ Freeland wrote in the Toronto Star.
