Rome, January 21 (LaPresse) – The WHO expressed "regret" in a statement regarding the announcement of the United States' intention to withdraw from the organization.

"We hope the United States will reconsider, and we look forward to engaging in a constructive dialogue to maintain the partnership between the U.S. and the WHO, to benefit the health and well-being of millions of people around the world," the statement read.

The organization also highlighted that the U.S. is "a founding member" of the WHO, which "plays a crucial role in protecting the health and safety of global populations, including Americans, by addressing the root causes of diseases, strengthening health systems, and detecting, preventing, and responding to health emergencies, including outbreaks, often in dangerous areas where others cannot go."
