Goma (Congo), Jan 27 (LaPresse/AP) – As M23 rebels entered Goma this morning, a fire in the Congolese city's Munzenze prison caused thousands of inmates to escape. ‘All the prisoners who were detained got out, women, men or minors, everyone got out,’ said Mwamisyo Ndungo, one of the escapees who estimated that more than 2,000 escaped from the facility. Goma airport, a regional hub for trade, security and humanitarian efforts, was closed as a result of the fighting. Rwandan state television showed several Congolese soldiers surrendering in the Rwandan town of Rubavu after crossing the border from Goma.
