Milan, January 28 (LaPresse) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned of the risk of virus outbreaks, including Ebola, from a laboratory in Goma due to the ongoing violent clashes between the regular army and M23 rebels. This was reported by RFI.
The Red Cross expressed being "very concerned about the situation inside the laboratory of the National Institute of Biomedical Research" and urged efforts to "safeguard the samples that could be affected by the fighting, which could lead to unimaginable consequences if bacteriological strains, including the Ebola virus, were to spread," said the ICRC’s regional director, Patrick Youssef, during a press conference in Geneva.
