Madrid (Spain), Jan. 28 (LaPresse) – The Spanish Supreme Court has unanimously refused to annul the reappointment of Alvaro García Ortiz as state attorney general. The Contentious-Administrative Chamber made this decision a day before García Ortiz testifies as a suspect in the alleged leak of an e-mail from the lawyer of Alberto Gonzalez Amador, Madrid governor Isabel Diaz Ayuso's partner, in which the businessman acknowledged tax fraud of 350,000 euros and offered a deal to the prosecution. This was reported by the main Spanish media including Rtve. The appeal against the attorney general had been filed by the Independent Professional Association of Prosecutors (Apif). Regardless of today's ruling, the trial against García Ortiz for alleged disclosure of secrets will continue in the hands of the Supreme Court, explains Rtve, which cites informed sources. In Spain, the appointment of the attorney general is up to the government. Pedro Sanchez's executive defended the magistrate's work by expressing ‘maximum support and confidence’.
