Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Feb 5 (LaPresse/AP) – The Middle East reaction to President Donald Trump's proposal for the United States to take control of the Gaza Strip was swift. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry issued a strong statement, reaffirming that Riyadh's long-standing call for an independent Palestinian state is a "firm, constant, and unwavering position."
The statement highlighted that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the country's de facto ruler, has declared that "Saudi Arabia will not stop its relentless efforts for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the kingdom will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without this condition."
Saudi Arabia is currently negotiating with the United States on a deal to diplomatically recognize Israel in exchange for a security pact and other conditions.
