Sweden, Pope Francis: "Deeply saddened by the shooting in Örebro"

Rome, Feb 5 (LaPresse) – Pope Francis said he was "deeply saddened" upon learning of the shooting in Örebro, which claimed 11 lives last night. The Pontiff's condolences were conveyed in a telegram sent by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. In the message, Pope Francis "assures his spiritual closeness to all those affected by this traumatic incident."

"At the same time," the telegram continues, "he offers prayers for the repose of the souls of those who have died, for the consolation of their grieving families and friends, and for the swift recovery of the injured."

"In this difficult time for the nation, His Holiness invokes upon the Swedish people the gifts of unity and peace from Almighty God," the message concludes.
