Berlin (Germany), Feb. 22 (LaPresse) – Investigators suspect an antisemitic motive behind last night's knife attack near the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, according to Tagespiegel. Police arrested the suspected attacker, accused of stabbing and seriously injuring a Spanish tourist, who later required emergency surgery. The suspect is a 19-year-old Syrian who entered Germany as a minor in 2023 and was granted asylum. He lived in a refugee center in Leipzig, where a search was conducted this morning. Investigators found a Quran and a prayer book in his backpack. According to Tagesspiegel, the Syrian intended to kill Jews, and his motive was linked to the Middle East conflict. However, authorities have found no evidence of additional perpetrators or links to terrorist organizations such as ISIS or Hamas. Initial reports indicate that the suspect attacked the 30-year-old Spaniard from behind, stabbing him in the neck with a hunting knife.
