Turin, 25 Feb (LaPresse) – The Trump administration has rescinded a memorandum issued by Joe Biden that required the government to report potential violations of international law concerning weapons supplied by the United States to allies. The Washington Post writes this, citing sources. The memorandum, signed by Biden in February 2024 following criticism of Israel's use of US weapons in the war in Gaza, required the US government to produce reports for Congress on the use of US weapons by other countries. Countries were already required to commit to using the weapons in line with international law, but the memorandum expanded the request by requiring a written commitment. In May 2024, the Biden administration stated that Israel may have violated international humanitarian law, but added that US officials had failed to identify specific instances of violations that had harmed civilians as a result of the war.
