China, National People's Congress kicks off

Beijing (China), March 4 (LaPresse) – The most important annual political event in China begins this week, bringing together the country’s top leaders and thousands of provincial leaders to approve decisions already made by the Communist Party of China. The meetings and sessions during the National People's Congress are expected to last about a week. The approval parliament maintains an important function: signaling the government’s priorities for the coming year and spreading instructions to party members and officials across the country. The leadership's message appears unchanged from previous years: continue promoting innovation while stimulating domestic consumption. The question will be how to balance these two goals, and whether it will be enough to revitalize the economy. And to what extent the government will cushion the impact of what could be another phase of the U.S.-China trade war.
