Brussels, 6 Mar. (LaPresse) – The European Council underlines ‘the need to continue to substantially increase Europe's security and defence spending’ and ‘welcomes the Commission's intention to recommend to the Council the activation, in a coordinated manner, of the national safeguard clause under the Stability and Growth Pact as an immediate measure and invites the Commission to consider further measures, taking into account the views of the Council, while ensuring debt sustainability, to facilitate significant defence spending at the national level in all member states’. This was stated in the conclusions on defence adopted by the 27 at the extraordinary summit in Brussels.
