Rome, 31 Mar. (LaPresse) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint former Navy commander (and retired) Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit as the next head of Shin Bet. This was announced by Netanyahu's office, as quoted by The Times of Israel. ‘The Shin Bet is an organisation with many merits’, stated the Prime Minister's office, ‘which suffered a serious trauma on 7 October’. Netanyahu, the statement continues, ‘is convinced that Sharvit is the right person to lead the Shin Bet on a path that will continue the organisation's glorious tradition’. Sharvit has been appointed to replace Ronen Bar, who the government formally dismissed at the beginning of the month. However, the termination of Bar's employment has been suspended by the Israeli High Court of Justice.
