New York (New York, USA), 1 Apr. (LaPresse/AP) – The US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, has announced that she has asked federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel on 4 December 2024. Mangione, 26, is charged with murder at both the federal and state level. The federal charges include murder with a firearm, which carries the possibility of the death penalty, while the maximum penalty for the state charges is life imprisonment. Mangione has pleaded not guilty in state court and has not entered a plea at the federal level.
