Taipei (Taiwan), April 2 (LaPresse/AP) – The United States has stated that China’s actions, which have involved military drills in the waters of the East China Sea near Taiwan in recent days, are only worsening tensions.
"Once again, China’s aggressive military activities and rhetoric toward Taiwan only serve to exacerbate tensions and jeopardize regional security and global prosperity," said U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce in a statement. "In the face of China’s intimidation tactics and destabilizing behavior, the United States’ unwavering commitment to our allies and partners, including Taiwan, continues."
"The United States supports peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and opposes any unilateral changes to the status quo, including through force or coercion," the statement reads.
