Washington, April 3 (LaPresse) – Russia has been excluded from the list of countries affected by the tariffs announced by Donald Trump because U.S. sanctions already "preclude any significant trade." White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt clarified this to Axios, explaining that Cuba, Belarus, and North Korea were also excluded because existing sanctions and tariffs on these countries are already extremely high. The value of trade between the United States and Russia has plummeted from about $35 billion in 2021 to $3.5 billion last year due to sanctions imposed over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Leavitt emphasized that Russia could still face "very strong additional sanctions."
