Trento, 7 Apr. (LaPresse) – Renè Benko will remain in preventive custody in a Vienna prison. This was decided by the court of the Austrian capital, accepting the objections of the anti-corruption prosecutor. According to what we have learnt, the prosecutor still has ‘a strong suspicion that the crime will be repeated, hence the justification for detention’. Benko has been in solitary confinement since 23 January following the collapse of the Signa group he headed, but he has not yet been notified of the charges because, according to the anti-corruption prosecutor's office in the Austrian capital, ‘the investigation is still ongoing’. Benko is also under investigation by the Trento Anti-Mafia Directorate, which is looking into an alleged corruption ring and rigged tenders involving 77 people including mayors, politicians, businessmen, professionals, public officials and a former senior officer of the Carabinieri.
