Rome, April 7 (LaPresse) – U.S. President Donald Trump stated that peace talks with Russia are ongoing and emphasized that the United States "would like them to stop" as the war is causing the deaths of thousands. Trump made these remarks aboard Air Force One while speaking about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. When asked whether a peace agreement is expected, the U.S. President said: "We are talking to Russia, we would like them to stop. I don’t like that they keep bombing and that thousands of young people are killed every week."
His comments came after former Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on X that Russia had launched missiles from the Black Sea. In his post, he called for a ceasefire and said: "A ceasefire at sea is not only about free navigation and food exports, but above all about general security and bringing peace closer."
He also added: "If there is a ceasefire, it must be unconditional, one that does not allow the destruction of human lives. Ukraine has accepted the U.S. proposal for a complete and unconditional ceasefire. Putin refuses. We are waiting for a response from the United States — none has come yet — and we are also expecting a response from everyone in Europe and around the world who truly want peace."
