Quito (Ecuador), April 14 (LaPresse) – Daniel Noboa has been re-elected president of Ecuador. With over 92% of the ballots counted, the re-elected president received 55.8% of the votes, while his rival, lawyer Luisa Gonzalez, garnered 44%. The president of the Ecuadorian Electoral Council, Diana Atamaint, stated that these results show "an irreversible trend" in favor of the conservative candidate. "Ecuador is changing, this path will mean that our children will live a better life than ours," Noboa declared to his supporters in a brief speech, during which he criticized the fraud allegations made by his opponent. "I find it embarrassing that, with an 11-12 point difference, they question the will of the Ecuadorians," he emphasized. "Ecuadorians have spoken, now we must get to work." Gonzalez stated that she "does not recognize the results presented by the National Electoral Council," claiming, among other things, that pre-election polls had shown her leading over Noboa, and announced a request for a recount of the votes due to what she called a "grotesque" electoral fraud.
