Brussels, 15 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘We are aware of the amendments to the Hungarian Constitution approved yesterday by the Hungarian Parliament’ against LGBTIQ+ people. ‘For the moment, we must analyse the changes, as they cover several topics, and we must examine them very carefully in order to assess them from the point of view of European law on actions. We will not hesitate to take action if necessary.’ This was stated by European Commission spokeswoman Eva Hrncirova in the daily press briefing. “I cannot give you a timeline at the moment, but you have examples of numerous actions in the past, numerous violations also with regard to the situation of the LGBTIQ community in Hungary,” she added. ‘We are monitoring the situation of the LGBTIQ community very closely throughout the EU, including in Hungary, and our position on these rights is extremely clear: we support the LGBTQ+ community,’ adds deputy chief spokeswoman Arianna Podestà. ’The law presents several aspects, several issues to be examined, and that is why we will analyse it in relation to EU law.’
