Washington (USA), 18 April (LaPresse) – Approximately 10,000 pages of documents relating to the 1968 assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy have been declassified, following an executive order signed in January by President Donald Trump. National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard said in a statement that the release of the RFK files ‘will shed light on a long-awaited truth.’ Gabbard added: ‘Nearly 60 years after the tragic assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the American people will, for the first time, have the opportunity to review the federal investigation thanks to the leadership of President Trump.’ Kennedy was shot dead on 5 June 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, shortly after delivering his victory speech in the Democratic presidential primary in California. His killer, Sirhan Sirhan, was convicted of first-degree murder and is serving a life sentence. The US National Archives and Records Administration has published approximately 229 files containing the pages on its website. Many files related to RFK's assassination had previously been made public, but others had not been digitised and remained for decades in federal government-run archives.
